A Board Foot is a measure of the amount of wood in a board, and is the square feet of the board's surface multiplied by the thickness. So a 1 inch thick board that is 8 feet long, 1 foot wide is 8 square feet or 8 board feet. If the board is 2 inches thick, the amount of wood in the board doubles, so it is 16 bdft. If the board is 3 inches thick the amount of the wood in the board triples, so is 24 bdft.
